What is a certified translation?
Certified translations are documents that have to be translated and certified. A certified translation can be used when dealing with civil and public authorities. Below are some examples of documents that very often have to be translated and then certified:

  • Birth certificates
  • Marriage certificates
  • Divorce certificates
  • Documentation for immigration or emigration and naturalisation
  • Passports and visa certifications
  • School and vocational training certification
  • Contracts
  • Patent
  • etc.

How is a translation certified?
There are different ways of certifying translations. The method or manner in which this is done depends on the purpose and on the country in wich the translation is to be used.
For translations used in Switzerland , we declare as a translation agency with notarial certification, that we have prepared the translation to the best of our knowledge and conscience. In most cases this is sufficient.

For legal hearings, or in case of divorce contracts, a certified translation with affidavit is required. This is usually declared, in addition to the written translation, verbally before a notary or a solicitor, together with the contract parties.

Very often a translation that has already been certified has to be re-certified by an apostil. In Switzerland this is done by the cantonal state office.

The requirements regarding type and method of a certification always have to consider the purpose and the target country for which the document is needed. We will gladly advise you in this respect!
